Although there are differences among ACQC?s housing programs, they all share the same primary goal and secondary goal:
To locate and secure apartments for people living with HIV/AIDS who are homeless, live in substandard housing, or are in danger of becoming homeless.
To offer social support services aimed at increasing the likelihood that our clients will remain in housing and live as independently and healthily as they are able to.
The Housing Department of ACQC has five separate housing programs:
The Second Chance Program is a permanent supportive scattered site housing program for people living with HIV/AIDS in need of Harm Reduction Services. This program also provides rental subsidies to nineteen homeless people who are living with HIV.
Project STREET is a supportive emergency/transitional to permanent scattered site housing program for people living with HIV/AIDS who are homeless and have been incarcerated for six months or more in a jail or prison. This program also provides rental subsidies to nineteen homeless people who are living with HIV.
Scattered Site II is a permanent supportive scattered site II housing program for people living with HIV/AIDS who are referred by HIV/AIDS Services Administration (HASA).
Housing Placement Assistance, or HPA, is a permanent housing placement assistance program for people living with HIV/AIDS. This program also provides emergency transitional apartments for families who are referred by HASA.
Ryan White HPA is a permanent housing placement assistance program for homeless people living with HIV who live in the New York City shelter system.
Each of the five programs has funding that enables it to serve meals to its clients, and provide them with supplementary furnishings, house-ware items, workshops on independent living skills, support groups, and counseling.
The ACQC Housing Department secures housing for over 275 clients per year. The majority of these apartments (55%) are located in Queens.
We have limited funding to provide emergency SRO placements for people who cannot access a hotel placement from HASA.
